We don't ask you to believe in an ingredient. We explain what it does, and why — at the level of plant chemistry and skin biology, not marketing language.
Two disciplines, one formula.
Every remaïa formula sits at the intersection of plant chemistry and skin biology. We start from what a plant's stress-response chemistry actually contains, then ask a second, separate question: what does compromised or reactive skin structurally need. A formula only earns its place when both answers point the same way.
This is also why we don't reach for folklore. Botanical tradition can point us toward an interesting plant, but a plant appears in a remaïa formula because we can name its mechanism, not because it has a good story.

We work from primary literature (PubMed, Google Scholar), not secondary marketing summaries. Two checks apply before any ingredient claim is written down.
Concentration realism: a study showing an effect at, say, 5% of an active is irrelevant to a formula that carries it at 0.3%. We check the tested concentration against our own actual percentage before citing a mechanism, not after.
In vitro vs. clinical: most of the plant-chemistry literature we draw on is in vitro or ex vivo. We treat that as evidence about the ingredient, not as a clinical claim about the finished formula — the two are not interchangeable, and we try not to blur them even when it would read better.
Oil oxidizes. We built a system so ours doesn't, quietly.
A water-free, oil-based formula has one real enemy: oxidation. Instead of relying on a single antioxidant, we layer three, each with a distinct job.
Primary antioxidant
Tocopherol (Vitamin E) — the first line of defense, present in every formula.
Secondary synergist
Rosemary CO2 — regenerates spent tocopherol, extending the protection window. A functional tool, not a terroir ingredient (it isn't Carpathian-sourced, and we're not pretending otherwise).
Formula-specific stabiliser
Chosen per formula from within the botanical profile itself — the detail changes, the job doesn't.

The carnosic acid and carnosol fractions in rosemary CO2 extract are documented to donate hydrogen back to the oxidised alpha-tocopheroxyl radical, regenerating active tocopherol rather than letting it stay spent. This is a described synergy in lipid-oxidation chemistry, not a proprietary discovery — our contribution is applying it deliberately, at a working concentration, inside a water-free format where oxidation risk is otherwise higher than in an emulsion.

A tool we reach for, not a default.
A pure plant oil is sometimes enough on its own. When it isn't — when a formula needs a specific texture or delivery behaviour a raw oil can't provide — we bring in the cleanest tools modern green chemistry offers, such as sugar-ester technology. This is a principle we hold in reserve, not a claim we attach to every formula by default.

What we say about an ingredient reflects what's documented about that ingredient — not an implied promise about the finished product.
No borrowed medical language
We describe skin states in plain, structural terms — barrier-compromised, lipid-depleted — rather than borrowing clinical or medical terminology we haven't earned the right to use.

Declining estrogen during perimenopause is associated in the literature with reduced activity of delta-6-desaturase, an enzyme involved in converting dietary linoleic acid into gamma-linolenic acid (GLA) within skin. Reduced GLA availability is one proposed contributor to the barrier-lipid changes some women notice during this transition.
This is part of why blackcurrant seed oil — naturally GLA-rich — appears in our formulas. We want to be precise about what that means: this is general dermatological science about an ingredient and a well-documented biological pathway. It is not a claim that the finished product treats, prevents, or reverses perimenopause or any named medical condition, and we don't intend it to be read as one.
We're in early discussions with a plant-extraction researcher at a Transylvanian university, focused on supercritical CO2 extraction of regional botanicals. It's a promising connection, not a finalized scientific advisory relationship — we'll say more if and when it becomes one.
