In the Smokehouse Atelier
Process

Almost a century of the same purpose.

Formulas are developed inside a house built in 1930 — one where healing has quietly happened for generations, long before it had a lab.

The building

Old house, new standards.

Like most households in this region a century ago, this house saw its share of home remedies and herbal know-how, passed down informally from one generation to the next. We don't dismiss that inheritance.

But what happens here now runs on lab testing, documented formulation, and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) — not on memory or habit. The building's age is part of the story. The standards inside it are entirely current.

What happens here

Research and development. No theatre.

This is where formulas are actually developed — testing, iteration, and the botanical R&D behind every remaïa concept happen inside this building, in a working lab space, not a styled set.

We don't start with an ingredient. We start with a question.

Before a single oil is measured, every remaïa formula has to survive four questions, in this order.

Q1

What are we actually trying to solve?

Not "another hydrating cream." A specific, nameable skin problem, described in structural terms — barrier-compromised, lipid-depleted, reactive — not a category we're told a brand should have.

Q2

What's actually causing it?

The root cause, not the symptom. If we can't name the mechanism behind the problem, we're not ready to formulate against it yet.

Q3

What do we have, from here?

What the Carpathian Basin actually offers toward that specific mechanism — not which plant has the best story, but which one's chemistry genuinely fits.

Q4

What does the research say?

What's actually documented about that plant, at that concentration, against that mechanism — checked against primary literature, not assumed from tradition.

If we can't solve a real problem, we don't build a tenth version of something that already exists.

Deliberately left open

R&D happens here — that part is settled. Where the finished, sold product will ultimately be manufactured — in-house at this site, or through an external production partner — hasn't been decided yet. We'd rather leave that honestly open than commit to an answer before we have one.
